The Commission wishes to place the UK ownership experience in a global context. This means that we will undertake a comparative study of aspects of ownership across the world.

We will look at how important ownership is across the world in terms of business performance and its correlation with competitiveness, standards of living and wealth creation.

This requires a good understanding of the legislative and regulatory environments established in other countries in relation to different corporate forms. Ultimately we wish to come to a judgement about whether the UK approach to ownership can learn from others.

We will also seek to learn from developing economies, looking at how growing economic players approach ownership, and where this contrasts with the Anglo-Saxon experience.

For policy makers, we will seek to come to a view on what implications ownership has for international development priorities and support to other economies. The Commission would like to judge how much UK international development support should promote a plurality of ownership models.
